The Mission District Neighborhood Guide

The Mission District is San Francisco's oldest neighborhood, named for an 18th-century mission that still stands on Dolores Street. While the Mission District continues to charm visitors and residents with its rich history, the neighborhood boasts an eclectic collection of contemporary homes and condos, restaurants, bookstores, art galleries, and nightlife spots. Noteworthy San Francisco attractions, such as the Roxie Theatre and the mural-packed Balmy Alley, are also located in this neighborhood.

The Mission District is bounded by Market Street, US-101, Cesar Chavez Street, Mission Street, and Church Street. It's close to neighborhoods like South of Market (SoMA), The Castro, Potrero Hill, and Noe Valley, to name a few.
